Hale gardens held their AGM on 30th November and the president, Stuart Miller, presented trophies for 3 recently held competitions.
First was the Pomeroy Cup which is an handicap event that players enter in pairs. The winners with 22 games were Dick Swayne (for the 15th time) playing this year with Heather Robson and he runners up with 21 games were Stuart Miller and Sue Tyrrell. Both these pairs were playing off a –15 handicap and they played 7 games against each of the other 6 pairs.
Next was the Geoff Brown Trophy restricted to veterans and partners were drawn for. There were 2 sections with 4 pairs in each. A final was played with the winning individuals from each section. In the final Stuart Miller and Doris Gethings beat Dick Swayne and Heather Robson 5-3.
The third competition was the Presidents cup and the winners were Dick Swayne and Doris Gethings. In the last two competitions each match consisted of 4 games with your own partner and then change partners so that you have 4 more games against your partner. The club is looking forward to more competitions next year and to encourage new members the joining fee has been waived for a further year.
Dorset League - September 2011
August is the end of the summer match season. In the Hampshire leagues the ladies have won 5 of their matches in division 2 and also had one walkover. In division 4 the men had 4 wins and just one loss. In the Dorset leagues some teams did particularly well. Ladies 1 in division 2 won 5 and lost 1, ladies 2 in division5 won 3, drew 1 and lost 2 Mens 1 in division 2 won 5 and lost 2. Mens Vets in division 1 won 4 and lost 1. Mens 3 consists of juniors aged 14-16 backed up by a few adults and they did well to attain 2 wins in division 6. Mixed 1 in division 2 won 5 and lost 2. Mixed 2 in division 3 had 3 wins, 1 walkover and 2 losses.
At the moment the club championships is on with the finals due to be played on Sunday 11th September. Luke Rivoire and Lauren Hayward have both reached the finals of their respective finals and are hoping to repeat last year’s winning result.
